Klonbike

Customized BMW R 18 build by The Motorcycle Shop in Anchorage, Alaska

The Motorcycle Shop was started by Doug Gallant in 1972 and is a BMW motorcycle dealer owned and operated by Alaskans, in Anchorage Alaska.

The entry from The Motorcycle Shop in the BMW Motorrad International 2023 Customizing Championship is a collaboration with Culmination Motorsports. Culmination Motorsports is a performance, customization, and restoration shop that specializes in classic German cars. They are known around the world for their incredible restorations and attention to detail.

The inspiration for the bike is the Klondike/Alaskan Gold Rush, as well as the Alaskan flag which shows the North Star and Big Dipper in gold on a field of blue. The "Klonbike" as they're calling it, is midnight blue, with gold pinstripes (which has real Alaskan gold flakes in the paint). All of the exposed hardware on the bike, as well as the wheel spokes, engine covers, and various other parts, are gold anodized or coated in Gold Iridite and give incredible contrast to the midnight blue found on the frame, wheels, tanks, and fenders. After installing a BMW Accessory Bobber kit, and modifying the fenders to a more classic shape inspired by the R 69 S, they did some fabrication on the exhaust and engine to give the bike a classic, sporty look.
