Love two-wheeled adventuring? RawHyde does it all.
For you and your GS, the adventure begins … where the pavement ends
If you're looking for one-stop shopping where you can learn some amazing new skills to utilize on your GS, then put them to use on some of the most amazing scenery in North America, then RawHyde Adventures is right in your powerband. Usually when it comes to furthering your skills off-road, it's either training or touring. Rarely do you get the chance to do both — but that's exactly what RawHyde excels at.
Located outside of Los Angeles, RawHyde Adventures offers everything from expert training schools toadventure rallies, as well as adventure tours and special events, including trips to exotic locales like a 12-day odyssey to Mexico's world-famous Copper Canyon, and even international trips to places like Italy and New Zealand.
The training programs that RawHyde provides range from beginner to intermediate to advanced. There's even couple's training for those intrepid soul mates who aren't content with backyard barbecues. Called "Adventure Camp," each training program is an intense three-day experience where riders learn about navigation, tire choice, accessories, communication, and other aspects of adventure riding.
Adventure Camp #1 "Intro to Adventure" is taught by an instructor who is a graduate of BMW's famed enduro facility in Hechlingen, Germany. These exercises are intended for riders who have little or no true off-road experience, at least on a big GS. Some participants may have ridden a dirt bike years before, but this class focuses on how to handle a large enduro bike, which is a very different thing. The goal with this program is simple: to give riders the skills and confidence to explore areas they would have shied away from before, places like dusty logging roads, gravel paths, and back–country trails.
RawHyde's intermediate program, Adventure Camp #2, is called "The Next Step." It's intended for riders who have completed the first level, or those with at least a year of off-road experience. In this workshop, skills are further honed, the pace is increased, and riders are pushed to reach levels of proficiency that will enable them to master even tougher areas of off-road terrain. (That's where something called the "Confidence Course"—which is an obstacle course of jumps, buried logs, boulders, and more surprises—comes into play.) The goal is to give every rider a comprehensive "toolbox" of skills that enables him or her to face any challenge on a weekend ride or round-the-world trip.
The advanced rider program is for everyone who's finished "The Next Step" and wants to learn even more about the limits of riding a large capacity enduro bike off-road. Whether you've done a few Rally Motos, done hardcore riding in the woods or desert, or taken other off-road classes, RawHyde's advanced rider classes take skills that are already developed and amps them up even further by pushing you to your absolute limit.
And for those brave couples who want to explore the world without hopping a plane or tour bus, RawHyde's couple's adventure class shows you the techniques of riding two-up touring that will maximize every journey's enjoyment to the fullest.
Whatever level you are, RawHyde's training teaches balance and control, keeping your bike upright and in line, riding loose and relaxed, clutch and throttle control, body position, turning on a hill, hill climbs and descents, riding in deep sand, mud, and gravel, controlling front and rear brake skids, and, generally, riding with finesse, accuracy, and making your GS do what you want it to, and not the other way around. Technology and "field repair" seminars are featured as well.
And if you're looking for more than just training, well, RawHyde excels at that too with their adventure rallies. Usually events that take place over a long weekend, these rides to places like the Rocky Mountains, Arizona Badlands, Sierras, Moab, and other scenic areas in the West include all meals, beverages, lodging, and entertainment. These are not guided rides, because RawHyde wants every rider to explore these areas at their own pace. But at the end of the trail, at predetermined locations, there's always the same excellent RawHyde hospitality in the form of their unique "Safari Camp," which features cuisine more accustomed to a hotel than the middle of nowhere. And for 2008, RawHyde is also doing a 12-day, one-way ride through the West to Gillette, Wyoming, home of the BMW MOA Rally as well.
With this much training, and this many awesome places to put it to use, RawHyde's commitment to the GS rider is unique.
