GS Trophy 2012
Strength in unity: the official partners of the 2012 GS Trophy
The GS Trophy is a motorcycle adventure extraordinaire that demands the utmost from man, machine, and materials. As the organiser of the GS Trophy, BMW Motorrad is meeting this challenge with its GS models and the BMW rider equipment for the approx fifty pilots.
This year too, BMW Motorrad has select partners at its side, and together they will be giving the international riders the ultimate motorcycle adventure. Every one of our partners is an expert in his field. They will not only be providing the teams with additional top equipment, but also advising and assisting us in planning and realising the GS Trophy.
Like its predecessors in 2008 and 2010, the 2012 GS Trophy will be hosted in close cooperation with Touratech AG.
Touratech will be fitting the series motorcycles with both its own and BMW Motorrad accessories. They will then be perfectly prepared for the gruelling ride over tough terrain in South America.
So far, the GS Trophy has never known any motorcycle to fail owing to a technical defect.
In addition, Touratech will be providing a team of mechanics that will be offering technical support for the 2012 GS Trophy.
Herbert and Ramona Schwarz are the official event photographers who will be following the 2012 GS Trophy and reporting live from South America.
Metzeler has been the official tyre partner to the GS Trophy since 2008. All motorcycles used at the event will be fitted with Metzeler Karoo (T) tyres. These studded high performance enduro tyres were developed by Metzeler for tackling the most demanding motorcycle adventures, above all in offroad terrain. The Karoo (T) is therefore the perfect choice for the hard ride in the GS Trophy.
The GS Trophy relies on the engine oils developed by Castrol. All participating motorcycles will be lubricated with the partially synthetic premium four-stroke motorcycle engine oil Castrol Power 1.
Castrol Power 1 provides a high level of protection at all times for the engine and gearbox, flows quickly specifically in the starting and runup phases, forms a reliable film of lubrication even at high temperatures, and is very long lasting. All of these properties are instrumental in ensuring the high reliability of the GS Trophy event motorcycles.
Marmot Mountain Europe GmbH will be the official supplier and partner to the GS Trophy for the first time in 2012. The tradition-steeped brand from California attaches top priority to innovation, quality, performance and functionality.
So GS Trophy participants will be able to rely entirely on the Limelight 2P tents and Wave II sleeping bags which will be used in Patagonia.
Meanwhile the Marmot Stretch Man jacket will provide 100% weather protection for rainy evenings around the camp fire. Participant equipment is rounded off with a warm beanie (the Marmot Summit hat) and the official GS Trophy 2012 participant shirt.
Since Marmot is fully committed to social and ecological sustainability, the GS Trophy T-shirt is made of organic cotton. There are also many other products in the Marmot collection which are made of recycled polyester and other environmentally compatible materials.
For BMW Motorrad, Garmin is the first choice when it comes to navigation. This is reflected in a partnership which goes back many years.
For the GS Trophy 2012, not only will the tried-and-tested BMW Motorrad Navigator IV be in use but also an entirely new device produced by Garmin: the BMW Motorrad "Adventure" navigator. This is based on the Garmin Montana and will not be available in stores until next year. However, the very first of these devices will be put to use in the GS Trophy. With its robust casing, the Adventure is excellently suited to the demanding off-road requirements of the GS Trophy.
With this brand new piece of equipment, every team will be able to tackle the navigation tests. Garmin will also be supporting the GS Trophy 2012 with Adventure devices and mounts for all back-up vehicles, as well as providing maps for South America.
In order to be able to capture the unique experience of the GS Trophy in breathtaking images, Rollei will be issuing each participant with a Bullet HD Pro 1080p.
The Motorbike Edition of this shock-resistant, waterproof full HD camcorder can easily handle water crossings, gravel tracks, sludge and sand. So it perfectly meets the heavy-duty requirements of the GS Trophy.
1920 x 1080 pixels (full HD) and 20 megapixels (4032 x 3024) photo quality guarantee top-class images. Rollei designed the Motorbike Edition of the Rollei Bullet HD Pro 1080p in collaboration with the experts of Gaskrank. The action cam comes with extensive mounting accessories for helmet and motorbike as well as radio remote control and a 4GB micro SD card.
